I was given the task of creating a music video to go along with a song of my choice. I have the freedom to make this video in whatever way I wish. I have begun by thinking of possible songs to make a video for;
Bob Marley - One Love
Son Lux - Change Is Everything
Monarchy - Disintegration
Noah And The Whale - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N
Madeon - The city
Madeon - Home
Woodkid - Iron
After looking over my options I eventually decided to use the song One Love by Bob Marley for my music video. I decided to use this song because it was not overly long and I would be able to put a twist on it by making the lyrics contradict with the video itself.
I created a schedule so that I could properly plan out when I was going to finish each part of the production of the video.
Schedule
2/11/14
Begin drafting up a script and coming up with general ideas and decide on a song.
13/11/14
Finish the final draft of my script and begin to plan out shots.
6/12/14
Have all shots planned out and look for possible locations.
6/1/15
Have locations decided and plan out shoot dates, have actors ready and any crew.
12/1/15
Book out equipment for the appropriate dates. Complete necessary documents, e.g. riask assessments.
25/1/15
Shoot for the music video, have actors sign clearances.
5/2/15
Complete any other shooting needed.
7/2/15
Begin editing the footage.
9/2/15
Finish the final edit of the music video and upload to Vimeo.
Shot List
The first shot will be a shot of a war machine (e.g a tank or cannon) which will be followed by a shot of someone grieving to show the effect of war. I will follow this with pictures of Nazi Germany and then Korea, so that the viewer can identify with this. I will show clips of tanks driving in formation and then soldiers marching in rank formations. I will follow this along with happier images of people waving and the famous clip of a man stopping a tank from moving forward. I will then show clips of weapons firing and then images of the devastation caused by war. More pictures of people saluting, showing unwavering allegiance in war then clips of people firing their weapons showing the ruthlessness. Then clips of combat training, I will then cut to more of the man stopping the tank and then weapons being moved and fired. Then the North Korean army marching with a flag of their leader showing the control over them. Then more of the man stopping the tank afterwards. Then more images of people and vehicles marching to war. Before the music fades out on the last bit of the clip with the man stopping the tank.
I have finished the production and post production of my music video. Due to being behind schedule and the time constraints because of this I was not able to do all I desired to do with the video and as such the end product was different than I had originally intended. I decided that since I was limited by time and resources I would instead make my music video from still images and found footage. This meant that I could produce my end product much faster than if I needed to film too. I kept my choice of song as Bob Marley's One Love, this was because the song was still suitable and I could still use certain images to make a twist to the tone of the song. Since I made my film out of pre-existing images and footage there was no need for a crew or risk assessment. If I was to repeat this task I would allow myself more time to produce a good quality music video and book out equipment with the time so that I can create a music video using actual footage I have captured myself.
